Not a question for the SchoolWires guy, but have we talked with IT dept heads from other districts using SchoolWires and EdLine to get their perspectives and feedback?
It would be good to hear from the voices of experience...
PLayed around with the editor a little this morning. I like what I saw. The toolbar is very robust (more that what I saw in the EdLine demo) and seems pretty easy to use. I like the apparent ease of use for the novice, but also the ability to easily edit various attributes for tags like the IMG tag. Seems like a "best of both worlds" setup.
I uploaded a QuickTime movie in the "video podcast"area but was disappointed to see that is only plays scaled way down in size. Didn't see any way to make it play fullscreen but I'm hoping I am just missing it...
Anyone get the "idea wall" to work? I assume it is some kind of virtual corkboard (ala WallWisher) but I didn't see way to add anything to the page once it is created...
Will we get a sandbox site so we can try it out?
ReplyDeleteYes, John (vendor) made a note and will email that to me..I'll pass it along

I have contacts for local customers, yes. Have not had a conversation with them yet. Very good suggestion.
ReplyDeletePage view stats are cool. Is there a site-wide overview available as well. Top pages, total visits to entire school site etc...
ReplyDeleteLike the HTML editor!
ReplyDeleteDoes SchoolWires auto detect the browser client and generate mobile friendly pages as well?
ReplyDeleteThey have a mobile client, but it's a module they charge additional $ for... but at least it does exist. :-)
ReplyDeletewould passkey work for all the resources like vmath logins.

Photo gallery implementation seems rather clunky. No batch upload and the display for the end user is not very impressive...

ReplyDeleteBuilt in clip art gallery is a nice bonus... Not a huge collection, but good enough for basic needs. Power users can always upload their own images.
ReplyDeleteAnyone else going to post here?
ReplyDeleteBueller? .... Bueller....?
For those of you using the proxy bypass, check out the two videos on this page.

Both SchoolWires and EdLine do a lousy job of handling videos IMHO. Perhaps it is time for TTSD to consider unblocking Vimeo?
SchoolWires set up a demo page using FlowPlayer to display videos. http://sandbox3.lakepark.schoolwires.net/Page/2416
ReplyDeleteMuch nicer than their current presentation.
Another big plus for SchoolWires is that they don't compress uploaded files and have a very generous 1GB individual file size limit.
